Vietnam Airlines was founded in 1956 under the name Vietnam Civil Aviation. Headquartered in Long Bien District, Hanoi with hubs at Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Vietnam Airlines became a state-owned enterprise in 1989.

Vietnam Airlines joined SkyAlliance in 2010.

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has been selected one of the Top 10 Most Improved Airlines by the UK-based airline review organization Skytrax. Vietnam Airlines has also ranked the 55th position in the list of the world’s 100 best airlines for 2015.

Vietnam Airlines is aiming to become the second-largest full-service carrier in Southeast Asia.
